Acceptable Use Policy

We want ISBL's online spaces to be safe and welcoming for everyone. This policy describes the standards we ask you to follow when submitting information through our website.

Effective date: June 2026

1. Overview

ISBL provides several online tools that allow members of the community to interact with us — including a contact form, event RSVP system, newsletter signup, membership applications, and volunteer inquiries. These tools exist to connect people with our programs and to make participation easy and accessible.

This Acceptable Use Policy sets out the basic expectations for anyone who uses these features. The rules are simple: be honest, be respectful, and use the tools for their intended purpose.

2. Who This Applies To

This policy applies to anyone who uses any interactive feature on the ISBL website, including:

  • The contact form
  • Event RSVP and registration forms
  • Newsletter signup
  • Membership applications
  • Volunteer inquiry forms
  • Any other form or submission feature on the site

By submitting information through any of these features, you agree to follow this policy.

3. Required Standards

When submitting information through the ISBL website, you agree to:

  • Be truthful: Provide accurate information about yourself. Do not misrepresent your identity, affiliation, or intentions.
  • Be respectful: All messages and submissions should treat ISBL staff, volunteers, and other community members with dignity and respect.
  • Use features as intended: Contact forms are for genuine inquiries. RSVP forms are for people who sincerely intend to attend the event. Newsletter signup is for people who want to receive updates.

4. Prohibited Conduct

The following actions are not permitted through any ISBL online feature:

Spam and Unsolicited Messages

Do not use ISBL's contact form or any other feature to send bulk, repetitive, or unsolicited promotional messages. This includes marketing your own products, services, or events without ISBL's invitation to do so.

Harassment and Harmful Content

Do not submit messages, content, or requests that are threatening, abusive, discriminatory, or harassing toward any individual or group. This includes content that is racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise intended to harm or demean.

Impersonation

Do not submit information under a false name or impersonate another person, including ISBL staff, community members, or public figures. Do not claim organizational affiliations you do not have.

False Information

Do not provide knowingly false information in any form submission, including false contact details, fabricated identities, or fictional attendance for event RSVPs. Submitting false information disrupts our ability to manage events and respond to genuine community members.

Automated Submissions

Do not use bots, scripts, or automated tools to submit forms or interact with the ISBL website in a way that is not consistent with human use.

Illegal Activity

Do not use ISBL's online features for any purpose that is unlawful under California or federal law, including fraud, identity theft, or attempting to gain unauthorized access to our systems.

5. Enforcement

ISBL reserves the right to:

  • Disregard or delete any submission that violates this policy.
  • Remove any RSVP, membership application, or other record submitted in violation of this policy.
  • Block or restrict access from individuals who repeatedly or seriously violate these standards.
  • Report abusive or illegal conduct to the appropriate authorities where required by law.

We will make a good-faith effort to evaluate potential violations before taking action. We are not required to give advance notice before removing a submission or restricting access.

6. Reporting Abuse

If you receive a harassing or abusive communication that appears to come from someone using the ISBL website or an ISBL event, or if you suspect someone is misusing our online forms, please let us know. We take reports seriously and will investigate promptly.
